Pros

Low pressure if working at headquarters in Chevy Chase, MD (almost impossible to get fired). Could work only 38 hours a week if desired (could work more to get more work done). Flexible scheduling at HQ (Plaza) means you could work 4/5 days a week or 9/10 every pay period. There is always opportunity for a lateral move if you aren't happy with what you are doing. On site cafeteria with OK food, but pricing above cost (run by vendor). Metro accessible (Friendship Heights). People are generally nice and easy to get along with. Not a lot of drama (team/department dependent). Professional environment with no pressure to socialize or work outside of working hours. Pick a job you will like doing, there are plenty of openings to match a variety of skill sets. Easy to get entry level job and application process was pretty quick (drug test off site was terrible!). They will fly you out for interview if you make it past phone screens. C Suite is pretty smart and have a long term vision to make sure this company is successful for many more decades.

Cons

No 401k match (instead profit sharing, but takes 6 years to receive full amount, 0% first year, 20% of given amount 2nd year, etc.) Very tough to get a promotion after the first year or two. Must play the "GEICO Game" and act like a faithful and loyal employee who plans to work there for life (and some employees actually do, 35, 40, 45 years) in order to move into management position. IT pays well, but turnover is crazy high. No gym (well there is one, but it's closet sized) and cafeteria is really only building amenity. You must pay $8 a month to park, and for first year or two, will be stuck in a nearby parking garage and will have to walk to building. Still a very conservative office (wear dress clothes, no alcohol on premise, no drinking at lunch or official happy hours allowed). Low cost provider of insurance means low cost operations. Technology is sometimes cutting EDGE (a little joke for current employees), or a decade plus old. Building is old and run down, despite maintenance doing a decent job up keeping. Would not ever want to work on the phones in the regional call centers. Tough job with no breaks and high expectations. Pay is below market value in area.

Pros

GEICO is one of the largest employers in my smaller town, so I've heard all the good, the bad, and the ugly. What a pleasant surprise it's been working here! There is so much intentional change to create a great employee experience and get the right team leaders in place. Highly recommend not putting too much weight into older negative comments if you're thinking about applying. I've been very happy with my salary, the benefits/time off, culture, and leadership (both locally and senior leaders). I feel like there's a lot of room to continue to grow my career here and I see the same opportunities for others.

Cons

Really nothing major that I can think of!

Pros

Interesting problems to work on. Good benefits. Decent pay.

Cons

Managers will gaslight you and upper leadership is constantly changing, so expect projects you're working on to be thrown out every 6 months. Many people burn out and quit after some time and are never back filled, so you'll be expected to take on their workload. Some of my colleagues were working 80 hour work weeks to keep up with the work load and yet told they were not performing well enough. There also wasn't much diversity.
