Pros

One of the best aspects of working here is the people. Emerson is filled with talented, hardworking, and trustworthy individuals who make it a great environment. The team culture and relationships are what kept me motivated even when other aspects of the job fell short. However, the recent decision to change the hybrid work policy from 2 days in the office and 3 days at home to 4 days in the office and only 1 at home is a significant step backward. While we have great people, Emerson doesn’t offer the most competitive pay or benefits. Three weeks of vacation is significantly below average, and many competitors offer more robust packages, including better flexibility. This shift in policy is a stark reminder that my work-life balance and needs as a professional aren’t prioritized. Unfortunately, this has led me to start exploring other opportunities where flexibility and equity are genuinely valued. It’s a shame because the people here are fantastic, but leadership decisions like this make it hard to stay proud and committed to the company.

Cons

As an employee who initially felt proud to work here, I’m deeply disappointed by the recent decision to shift from the current hybrid model (2 days in the office, 3 days from home) to 4 days in the office and only 1 day from home. Last year, our CEO publicly stated that he had considered changing the hybrid policy but decided against it after speaking with employees and expressing trust in our ability to perform remotely. The business is thriving, and productivity metrics clearly support that the current model works. This reversal feels like a breach of trust. The new policy disproportionately impacts women and minorities, who often shoulder the burden of caregiving responsibilities or face longer commutes due to systemic socioeconomic factors. It feels like the company is ignoring the very real challenges many employees face and dismissing the progress we’ve made in creating an equitable and flexible work environment. This decision undermines the company’s claims of valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Flexibility is a crucial factor in retaining talent, especially for underrepresented groups. By taking this away, the company risks losing the diverse perspectives and contributions that have driven its success. The lack of transparency and disregard for employee feedback have made it harder to feel pride in working here. Leadership should reflect on this decision and consider whether it aligns with their stated values and commitment to employee well-being. Trust is easy to lose and hard to rebuild.
