Pros

Working specifically for The Lancet group of journals can be a good experience, especially given the passionate, smart, and hardworking people who populate the various roles that get the journals to press.

Cons

The editorial roles at The Lancet journals are underpaid given how well qualified and experienced staff are expected to be (and certainly underpaid compared with most high-profile competitors in London and elsewhere). Additionally, very poor management decisions often leave people in middling roles shouldering the majority of the work and unable to progress, with no ability to negotiate any increase in salary. Performance-related pay is an absolute joke, with a forced curve that leaves many of the hardest working people receiving annual real-terms pay cuts, with novelty targets valued much more highly than the actual work involved in maintaining quality output. Meanwhile self-confidence is valued much more highly than skill or experience in promotion and hiring decisions.

Thank you for this balanced and thoughtful review. We're glad to hear that our benefits and investment in people are making a positive impact, those are commitments we take seriously. On the process feedback: Leadership is actively reviewing operational workflows, and the advice to listen more closely to employee feedback is something we're holding ourselves accountable to. If you're open to it, we'd encourage you to bring specific examples forward through your team or people and culture contacts. Change is most effective when it's grounded in the real experiences of the people doing the work, and that means you. Pros

-Great company -Team has talented, experienced account managers and product experts who know the territory well

Cons

West team management is heavy on micromanagement and sets unrealistic territory targets without rep input — high turnover, and long tenure in company seems to shield this manager from accountability and growth
