Pros

- Knowledge of settlement within the Electricity industry is extensive - Position in the industry is good - helps people in customer facing roles to expand their network - Good reputation - working there for a couple of years will definitely beef up your CV if you want to further a career in Energy - They pay more than their competitors

Cons

- The company is a one trick pony as their remit can only reach so far without regulatory approval - because of this there is no room to progress unless someone leaves the company - A number of knowledgeable people have left the organisation and there are gaps where knowledge has not been properly transferred - In the last few years a number of great people have left (almost entire teams have turned over) and this has impacted the atmosphere at the company - not very social anymore - I hear the company is becoming more flexible with working - though its worth noting that part of the reason I left was because it was not flexible enough - I was told I could not work from home unless it was for medical/doctor reasons - I feel that the exec needs to be more diverse - not enough female influence

Wow … you mention a lot of negative things and they are all valid in certain ways but we are working through many of them already so I would like to highlight some of those achievements do date… Our remit is very focused on the delivery of the BSC but a recent change will enable ELEXON to participate in an additional process to appoint the Retail Energy Code administrator which could in turn offer great work and career opportunities for our staff. Staff retention can be tough and we would never want to lose knowledgeable staff and hope that our benefits package is considered competitive. It is a credit to our staff that our customer service levels have remained extremely high and the roles we are recruiting for do offer some great opportunities. We have recently embarked on a number of initiatives that have specifically designed to move and develop our culture through more social events and increasing our CSR activities. The sports day went well and we raised quite a bit for our current charities (Guide Dogs and the Alzheimer Association). The football group is always popular, the summer BBQ for one department was well attended and there is always a buzz of chatter in the staff area. All good signs I hope. Working from home is now such a critical part of employment benefits and we certainly consider all requests. I have not encountered the restriction you mention and I know many people here that work from home either formally or occasionally, myself included. However, I asked some colleagues and unfortunately there have been a couple of examples as you described despite having a company policy that supports flexible working. I will try to find out more as the future is all about work / life balance and this means flexibility … On your last point … I am very pleased to say that we have just recruited a new Director of Strategy and she will be part of the company’s Executive Board. We know that she will bring valuable experience and insight.

Pros

Good location. Was entry into the energy industry. Taught me valuable lessons.

Cons

I should have written this review years ago. When I started working at Elexon it was a positive experience. I got on well with my team and enjoyed the work that I was doing. However, I soon began to notice that the team was quite siloed. I also found it difficult working with management who were often so busy that I couldn't ask for help / advice. I wanted to do well throughout my probationary period, but unfortunately I did make quite a few mistakes. I really needed help and asked for help whenever I could. However, because management were so busy, they could barely spare me any time. I started working early, late and over the weekends to try and get back on track but I just couldn't prevent this downward spiral. I ended up dreading coming into work. Elexon did have a work buddy program but it seemed that this program was only available to people that had already passed their probationary period. Things all came to a head at the end of my probation after six months of employment. I had a meeting with management in the morning where we agreed that things hadn't gone that great and that they were considering extending my probation. However, next thing I knew on the same day, I was put in another meeting with management and HR where I was informed me that I had failed my probationary period and that I would need to leave the office immediately. I was quite shocked. I told them that I had tried so hard to do well but nothing I said would sway their decision. The worst part was where I was escorted to my desk to collect my things in front of the entire team. Nobody would speak to me or even look at me. It was absolutely humiliating and I will never forget it. Looking back it it now, I do admit that the role and I were not a great fit. However, I can't forgive Elexon for how things ended and the lack of support I received whilst working there.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed and candid account of your experience. It is positive to hear that your early time at Elexon, your team relationships, and exposure to the energy sector provided value. I am genuinely sorry to read how your experience progressed, particularly regarding the support you received and the way your probation outcome was handled. We take this type of feedback seriously, particularly where it relates to support during probation and how colleagues are treated at critical moments. Your comments on siloed working, limited management availability, and the need for more structured support, including regular check-ins and earlier intervention, are well made. These are critical areas for us, and we are continuing to strengthen our approach to onboarding, regular one-to-ones, and early performance support to ensure colleagues receive the guidance they need from the outset. I am particularly concerned to hear how your exit was managed, and I am sorry that this was your experience. Thank you again for your honesty. Feedback of this nature is invaluable in helping us identify where we need to improve and ensuring we take meaningful action. Brett Buchanan Head of Resourcing
