Pros
Duke is a large place so there is plenty of work to go around. If you can fit in to their culture and know how to worship upper management you will do fine.
Cons
DHTS is a terrible organization to work for. Upper management is out of touch with employees. The good ole boys and girls network keeps DHTS from advancing. Budgets are tight and DHTS does not like to spend the money necessary to make improvements. I cannot believe how many times I have heard that something costs too much to help a project move forward. Senior management will punish lower managers by demoting them if they step out of line or talk out of turn. I guess this could be seen as a pro since it is hard to get fired at Duke. There was one complaint of sexual harassment with a contractor employee that made it up to the DHTS COO and it was ignored until the harasser was hired on as a full time employee and then started harassing another person. I am still unsure as to why immediate action was not taken against this person. You have to pay for parking if you park on or near campus at the DHTS global headquarters (Hock), parking is over $1,200 a year. Hiring managers tend to not mention this until after they have sent you an offer letter so keep that in mind when discussing salary. Some managers love to micro-manage you and it can be frustrating to do your job well. The senior leaders focus on pet projects that need to be completed in impossible timelines with limited resources which brings down employee morale. It is also almost impossible to transfer to other departments in DHTS. DHTS likes to hire outsiders and keep you in your current position until you are burned out and either quit or get managed out of their system.
