Pros

Promotions are easily attainable, even without college. Money is great, and job security is one of the best. And you get the satisfaction of helping out people who can't afford to keep themselves safe.

Cons

Plan on working 55-65hrs per week (unless you work in California) on salary (no overtime), in every imaginable condition. If it is busy, you don't get a break or lunch and you'll easily work 7am to 830pm. Tornado, blizzard, flooding, you better not be late, there is no excuse (this may just be my manager). Family medical emergencies are not an excuse to leave or be off (this also may just be my manager). Family life or personal life is next to impossible working these hours, especially in the stressful environment that your in. Unfortunatley, this leads to alcohol problems for many employees.
