Good Job for the summer - Receptionist Destiny Student Employee Review

Pros

Good culture among the front of house workers and their direct managers that encouraged camaraderie. Management also doesn't breathe down your neck 24/7 and allows you to actually do your job and have a laugh with your colleagues as you do it. Cheap rent in the centre of Edinburgh too for the summer. Good Job for those who want to spend a summer in Edinburgh and aren't looking for something more permanent from it.

Cons

While there are some returning staff, each summer is majority new staff for the reception, so your mileage may vary on experience there. The business practice can also be a bit nickel and dime-y in some regards (although I am told by some returning staff that this has gotten better than previously), of which the front of house staff are on the receiving end of the guests who are more irate about it.

Pros

Good price for accommodation as it is imposible to get a bed in Cork.

Cons

The job isn't well paid enough, and the teammates don’t seem to care if you have to get up early in the morning after they've been out partying the night before, among other things. The manager's lack of leadership fails to address these issues once they arise. Additionally, the workplace is located in some dodgy areas where people are seen using heroin on the corner. You can’t get more than 30 hours a week, and there’s no certainty of advancing within the business if you only work during the summer.

Pros

Cheap rent on site in an amazing city during summer

Cons

The job can be hard because of the amount of people that check-in, and for peoples high standards not matching the quality of the hotel
