Pros
If you like working for a company that: Does not put a cent into your 401k or retirement Has no real structured training or training staff Takes fifty miles of your travel away each day Takes a hour of your time away each day for travel Pays mileage from zip code to zip code instead of actual mileage Wants you to work a forty hour week but if you get those hours by the middle of the week they want you to stop so no overtime will have to be paid Has a pay scale that is stuck in the nineties Has a mileage scale that is stuck in the nineties Does not give out raises or promotions unless you are related to management Brow beats you on conference calls telling you to get your numbers up or layoffs will happen Has an outdated software system that is good only for spitting out lists and spreadsheets Runs from day to day never knowing if there is a tomorrow Is losing longtime customers Signs up accounts that require you to call a third party help desk before you get to the real help desk Requires you to be “certified” on equipment via web based training that you might see once a year or in some cases never Has no equipment for diagnosis other than a laptop Gets repair parts that are often damaged, missing pieces or just plain dead on arrival If any one of these apply, then you are in the right place.
Cons
There is no real training except for a couple of specialized accounts. The training is mostly hands on learn it yourself by doing it. Computer Based Training or Web Based Training seems to be what is preferred anymore. This is the equivalent of showing someone pictures of all four sides of a fire engine and then claiming they are qualified to drive it to the next four alarm fire call and putting it out. The buzz words “walk in, take over” were used when a new account was activated quite a few years ago. Very few techs knew or had any idea what the account was about. There was also a claim a few years ago that management would now be done “from the bottom up and not the top down”. Well, that boat never sailed and sank at the dock.
