Pros

The people I worked with at ChatID were great: good attitudes, strong work ethic, collaborative. The use case is a very strong and their technology is competitive. The spirit of the culture and values statements are good.

Cons

1) The founders have no experience running a business and, while they claim to look for people with experience to help grow the business, they do not trust or listen to the input those people provide. When these people did their jobs and called attention to the fact that the founders weren't listening, they were fired. 2) There was also no transparency from the CEO and CTO. 3) There was a strange reluctance to hire any engineering management, leaving the junior (but talented) engineers floating without technical guidance. 4) Senior management touted the values outlined for the company but absolutely did not live them.

Pros

Talented and driven people who are genuinely nice and a pleasure to work with - ingredients for a great culture without trying are definitely intact. Solid technology with a unique value proposition for both businesses and consumers. Market traction and wide-open path to growth and continuing innovation.

Cons

Typical challenges that may be associated with working at a startup - non-issues, essentially.

Pros

When I first started at ChatID, it was the best job I'd ever had. Each and every employee was bright, talented, and driven to do great work every day. It was an incredible place to be at, and the energy was amazing. Gradually, things began to change. Pillars of the company began to leave, or were just suddenly gone one day. A large sales team was built up to prepare for the explosive growth that was always just around the corner, and then most of them were soon laid off so that the company could "right size." Big influential companies grew dissatisfied with the product and churned, and were replaced with tiny companies and tinier chat volume. More and more people left or were laid off, and they were never replaced. Big plans were made and then forgotten about.

Cons

ChatID is a shell of what it once was. Recently about half of the staff was laid off in one big "red wedding" style purge. The excitement and energy that used to be pervasive is now, I'm told, replaced with a mix of weariness and dread. There are no more engineers left at this tech company, unless you count the cofounders. They once employed over 50 people, now it's under 20.
