• No training provided before working with highly challenging and sometimes aggressive students • Unsafe working environment with minimal support • Chronic staff shortages, leaving classrooms overwhelmed and chaotic • Unrealistic expectations – required to: • Clean up after students (bodily fluids included) • Clean the classroom and staff room • Create resources and full timetables for students (beyond the role of a TA) • Poor salary that doesn’t reflect the workload or risks • Mentally and emotionally draining, with no real wellbeing support • Role boundaries were completely ignored – staff were expected to do far more than their job description
