OK money but no down time - Electrical Controls Engineer Automated Conveyor Systems Employee Review

Pros

Company has a wide range of products to work on so it will be interesting; for a while. Get good experience with Allen Bradley products from PLC5 up to control logix. Some exposure to VFD drives. But most VFD applications do not use data communications and are only controlled by discrete remote IO (Actuator Sensor interface ASi) Travel is nice and they recognize that first class tickets are usually cheaper than coach + baggage fees.

Cons

Travel was way more than promised. Things change, I understand that. When business picks up after a recession it can really pick up. But other promises were also broken. Strictly regimented work hours when you are in the office. A few minutes late is unacceptable for some reason. Not the way to treat professionals. New ideas are not looked upon favorably. No down time even when traveling. They force you to use vacation days if you want a day off even though you have already worked 40+ hours for the week. Customers have no idea what they actually purchased and always ask for more even if they do. High percentage of customers have no concern for you. They will not care if you have been in their facility for more than a day continuously. There is the rare exception who will realize that is not good from a safety stand point. They will actually put safety above production and tell you to leave.

Pros

Great pay even at entry leve. I was making $16/hour with like $45 a day per diem. So roughly $1,100 a week after taxes. Always stayed in in nice hotels, never any motels. Always had my own room - never had to share a room Get to travel the country and build up hotel point and flight points

Cons

7 days a week - 10 hour days (which is also a pro if you're looking to make good money)
