Great Coworkers, Toxic Environment

Pros

Most coworkers are wonderful, kind people. Access to company gym. Job security. Decent benefits.

Cons

While most coworkers are good people, the bad ones make life here awful. The management at the company is floundering. Many of the mid-to-upper level managers want to make improvements to the company but are stifled by the CEO, who dictates how the company is run based on how he feels any given day. It's common knowledge that things like bonuses can get withheld if the CEO is in a bad mood or decides you're the cause of some problem, regardless of the actual reasons for said issue. HR is ineffectual at best, and is ill-equipped to make positive changes to the company culture. Some managers will do their best to buffer their employees from the worst of it, but others micromanage to the point of making this a toxic place to work. New employees come in excited to work for a company with ETAP's reputation in the industry, but within a few months are just as anxious to find new employment as everyone else. Project tasks for development and testing are calculated and managed by the hour, instead of in days. Working from home is not an option. Getting up to take a break or go to the bathroom is discouraged by some managers. Working here takes perfectly nice people and makes them cynical and frustrated all the time.

Pros

Most employees are nice, knowledgeable, and really smart. Free coffee. Gym. table tennis room. Solar panels providing 50% of the daily power consumption. Nice parking lot.

Cons

Micro management, horrible benefits, too many management tools to admin, too many meetings, zero decision making from employees or managers. no company vision, strategy, or guidelines. Lots of wasted time and money because there are no realistic deadlines or strategic planning. C-level managers do not trust anybody and have no faith in anybodies professional capabilities.

ETAP takes pride in maintaining an open, fair and enjoyable work environment with good benefits. ETAP recognizes people as our most valuable asset and we offer competitive salary and benefits package. We also offer the fast-paced, dynamic work environment of a startup; it’s a culture where good ideas and hard work are recognized and rewarded.

Pros

As an OTI employee, you will learn a lot about power engineering and how to model systems and do analysis. However, be careful no to take simulation as gospel as the theory will never replace the practical aspect of things when looking for another job. Try to get project experience otherwise your chances to find another job after OTI are slim and the CEO knows that.

Cons

Family-owned business profiting only the family members, CEO is a micromanager/control freak. It has to be his way or the highway. Therefore, all decisions have to go through him even at the Sr. VP level. You have to see it to believe it for yourself. Time cards have to be filled hour by hour and there is no trust in the employee even after many years of loyal employment. Traveling is really bad as they book cheap flights and cheap seats and don't compensate employees for working on Saturdays and/or Sundays. Over-time is never compensated and their bonuses are good for nothing. Compensation is really bad too with respect to the market.

When you’re the market leader, you’ll often find arrows coming at you from behind. We see that as a sign of desperation on the part of those who know that they can’t compete with ETAP so they resort to personal attacks against our core and valued employees. ETAP employees are the best and brightest in the industry, so we’re not concerned about these types of cheap smear tactics by those who try to disparage our brand and our ETAP Family.
