Pros

Having Dow Jones on your resume is great name recognition.

Cons

Where do I begin? One of the most toxic environments I’ve had the displeasure of ever working in. 1) High Turnover - managers and associates leaving in boatloads, for very “mysterious” reasons. HR turns a blind eye to the incompetencies and moral mis-practices of management. 2) No Diversity & Inclusion - you will hear execs talk about this as if it’s of the utmost importance to them, however it is not practiced or believed to the core. Minorities are driven out of the company in “mob like” tactics from management. You only have a chance in this company if you’re a fair skinned and light haired heterosexual. 3) Shady Management - lots of bullying, mob like behavior, and retaliation tactics against employees that management have targeted based on their silly biases. Surprised a lawyer hasn’t lit this place up yet in a legal battle!

Pros

Good snacks, and the name looks good on your resume. The latter will be especially useful since you won't want to stay long.

Cons

Bureaucracy rules the company. Red tape everywhere makes it impossible to get anything done. Middle-managers are very snooty and won't lift a finger - in fact, middle management is so bad here it is as though they are driven by nothing but the fear that their more junior colleagues will one day outshine them, and usurp their jobs. It is reminiscent of Stalin, though he was likely a more effective and empathetic manager than anyone I ever encountered here. Therefore, no one will be giving you any stretch assignments and your career will stagnate during your time here. The only way to survive at Dow Jones is to play teacher's pet and suck up. More generally, the only way to survive a Dow Jones job is to leave it.

Pros

Good benefits plan Some smart and kind co-workers

Cons

Company is struggling to survive in a rapidly declining business with no real plan. Constant fighting and political games among managers is like watching a real life Game of Thrones. Top executives are all older Brits and Australians who don't really have a good idea of what appeals to a younger Americans, so they keep the company afloat by getting rid of a chunk of people every year. Saw many smart, capable people let go because of politics or insane behavior, while others who are incompetent remain because they are friends with the right people. Oh, and if you happen to be a woman or a minority keep in mind that they will pay you less than your colleagues, just because. Do yourself a favor and go to a media company that is focused on this century.
