Pros

I spent seven years working at DBD Media, during more than half this time I oversaw the Paid Search marketing team. DBD Media gave me a great grounding in my first real foray into Digital Marketing that has now seen me work in this field for more than 12 years. The thing that I am most proud of while working at DBD Media was our central ethos of wanting to deliver the best results for our clients we could - but only only this, when results were not going well, we were not afraid of being upfront with our clients, we did not shy away from having frank conversations about why things were not going well. On the whole, our clients welcomed our honesty, most of our clients considered us as their partners, not just their digital agency whom they 'outsourced' work to. Putting clients aside, the many team members I worked with at DBD Media were awesome. There was a real collaborative feel at DBD Media, and there was a focus on learning from each other - I am still in close contact with most of my former colleagues from DBD Media that I spent a fair amount of time working with.

Cons

The only thing that I can say about my time at DBD Media that I wish was different from a personal perspective was I wish we were given more opportunities to work on larger scale campaigns where we could have had the opportunity to really show how good we were at what we did - that is, delivering results that made a measurable difference to our clients.

That's great feedback thank you. I'm proud to say that our values and ethos have not changed, and we still try to deliver the right solution for each client, and are happy to push back if we feel that things aren't right. Our campaigns have made significant differences to nearly all our clients, and as we have grown we have earned larger clients and larger budgets - although we still work with start-ups and smaller businesses as well. We also try to really focus on staff development - we try to hire smart people who will thrive at DBD, and when they move on will thrive in their future careers. We have seen this time and again, and it's one of our proudest achievements.

Pros

-Being the main point of contact for clients to develop client relationships. -Colleagues - though not management at the time.

Cons

-Uncomfortable working environment for women - at times sexist. -Petty office politics - you could cut the tension in the office with a knife. -Miscommunication with clients at a higher level that cause issues in terms of performance.

Thanks very much for your review, and apologies for the slow response. Firstly, I'm really sorry that you didn't have a good experience working at DBD, and hope that your current role is more satisfying and fulfilling. Over the last 16 years we've worked really hard at developing a fun, friendly and non-political culture at the agency, and we have always tried to deliver great results for our clients. The vast majority of people who have worked at the agency have left on a very positive and amicable note, and many are still friends. In your case it seems that we go this wrong somehow, and we are trying to do everything we can to make sure that our mistakes are not repeated. To address some of your issues: everyone now has a 121 meeting with their manager every couple of weeks, as well as frequent team meetings, and we hope that these provide a good forum to air any issues or concerns. Secondly, we have an HR consultant who is available one day a week for a confidential career clinic, to help understand any problems and help us get back on track. Finally, as MD my door is always open and I'm very happy to discuss issues with anyone in the company - we really do try to be transparent and open in this respect. Regarding the comment about sexism, we take this incredibly seriously. Our HR consultant has talked to all female members of staff - over half the company - and this doesn't seem to be something that others are experiencing at the moment - so we're sorry it's something you felt when you were at the agency. DBD has always had about a 50-50 male/female split, and the majority of our management team is female - we also actively promote from within where we can. If you'd like to discuss this aspect of your review with me, or with our HR consultant, we would be very happy to hear from you, and will try to resolve this.

Thanks for your feedback. We always try to give people early responsibility, and try really hard to create a friendly and fun work atmosphere, so very happy to see that is what you experienced. Reporting is something of a necessary evil in search marketing, but we are increasingly automating the less interesting part of this, and using the time to provide insight and analysis.
