I have been working at Corning full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Relocation for starting is great and pay is good.

    Cons

Communication is ineffective, co-workers play cards closer to the chest. It doesn't feel like the most accommodating team. Raises do not seem to be performance based.

    Advice to Management

Have operations and engineering work together instead of against each other. Make level 1 trouble shooting a priority.

    I worked at Corning

    Pros

Stable company with hands in many diverse businesses, #1 speciality glass manufacturer in the world

    Cons

Management is extremely too heavy and take too much of a conservative approach. You will have a hard time innovating here, there are too many internal meetings and roadblocks for true creativity to flourish. Management is very risk averse, so expect everything you do to be the safe route. This is fine for some people but over the years it's starts to add up and you just feel like you can't do anything outside the box....

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff more. Encourage your teams to drive decisions , not everything has to come from a top-down. Innovate and take risks, don't be afraid to play it safe there is so much Corning is capable of but is constantly stifled by internal roadblocks and top heavy management structure.

I worked at Corning full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Low stress environment, high pay relative to low requirements

    Cons

Management mostly Indulges in lip service but is hands-off, favoritism based on “soft skills”, claims to be capabilities based but truly only buddy system, too many silos.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to question data you’re presented with (often the ugly truth is filtered out), show engagement instead of hiding behind big programs, try to effectively overcome the silos for real

I have been working at Corning full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Sometimes great training available if you are interested.

    Cons

Management has no idea what is happening on the floor. Audits are the most important thing to happen here but when they come, records are often faked or made up on the spot. If you show any ambition, they will throw so much work at you that it will break you. They have a high amount of turn over do to work overload. Management has a "kaizen" program that ask operators and floor personnel to come up with ways to...
