Great remote work benefits but unstable culture post-acquisition

Pros

- Remote Work - Great flexibility with working from other locations - Unlimited PTO - Competitive compensation - Great health benefits - Autonomy to choose your projects and work, minimal micro-management

Cons

- No 401K match (IBM does have some retirement contributions) - My org was very unstable and there was lots of restructuring / silent lay-offs/ firings that kept happening all year round. Constant pressure to perform - Very few people were driven and motivated. Many were simple coasting - IBM Acquisition is going to ruin the culture. Young, hip Mountain View tech company getting acquired by large legacy consulting company is a big cultural mismatch. Huge round of layoffs already done, expect more. Lot of voluntary exists since the acquisition announcement. Most people are not motivated enough anymore to work since pay, benefits, culture all will be eroded because of the acquisition. Not a lot of clarity on how the org will continue. Current leadership will not stay for long - Some of the senior leaders were un-inspirational and lack-lustre

Pros

Confluent could have been an amazing place - smart people, great product, strong pay. But what’s happening at Confluen is not about performance, it’s about poor leadership and HR dysfunction - reactive, defensive, and disconnected from what employees actually need. Employees are promised growth, stability, and a supportive culture, only to be blindsided by sudden layoffs and political decisions. I saw careers being derailed not because of lack of talent, but because of poor judgment and office politics and these HR enable them. The HR team, especially in India, has no accountability or ownership. Their default reaction to feedback or questions is silence, deflection, or gaslighting. Instead of solving problems, they bury them and silence you as well. If you expect transparency, fairness, or a sense of security - you won’t find it here.

Cons

Compensation might attract you, but peace of mind won’t last long. Layoffs come out of nowhere, and those affected are left to deal with it in silence. Don’t let a good offer blind you to a broken system. Join only if you’re ready to deal with chaos disguised as opportunity.

The DSP story is dead.

Pros

If you have good enterprise accounts, you can grow those accounts to the moon.

Cons

If you have to prospect, heavens help you. This product and space are too complex to sell into. The DSP (Digital Streaming Platform) story that leadership tells is not resonating with the market. No one cares about Flink. No one wants to use Confluent's version of tableflow. No one can articulate why Confluent should be ones taking these workloads instead of Databricks other than "we're faster." But we aren't cheaper and definitely not easier to use.
