Smart, thoughtful people organizing around a better world, grounded in higher education. The Compact team is fully remote. It is the most respectful employer I've ever encountered, and others have said this as well. They have a strong reputation.
Cons
Sometimes it can feel a bit like you're just spinning your wheels, like the impact you're making is negligible and your position is just funded by some grant subsidy that you have to keep convincing people is actually making a positive difference. But that's any nonprofit, I guess.
Very dedicated people Having Campus Compact as an intermediary between the host site and AmeriCorps is very helpful, highly recommend to anyone considering AmeriCorps. Way easier to navigate the AmeriCorps VISTA experience that way Positive environment, plenty of resource sharing
Cons
Living stipend is very low, though that's not Campus Compact's fault. Education award at the end of service is taxed when used. Can be hard to make ends meet with the stipend if the host site doesn't provide housing or transportation stipend. Make sure you have some savings before you do a year of this, or have a second job.
