Pros

Lots of smart and cool worker bees. The mission in theory is great.

Cons

Who did they pay to write these? I see a lot of planted reviews so it’s time to share a more accurate perspective. The cofounders are egotistical, duplicitous, and think they are smarter than everyone else in the room. They will not share direct feedback with you and will instead talk badly about you behind your back and survey everyone else’s opinions about you as if it was high school again except they are middle-aged men who ought to know better. Better get used to people suddenly disappearing from the company without warning. They want to pretend that they care about elevating people’s well-being but we all know it’s about the money. Ask yourself: Is this the type of leadership you want to work for? It’s very sad to see that the Bay Area was once known for progressive ideals while these days, it’s attracting folks like the cofounders who are repackaging mindfulness for capitalistic gain while treating many of their employees terribly in a passive aggressive manner. The real company motto can be summed up by Galvin Belson’s quote: “I don't want to live in a world where someone else is making the world a better place before we are.” P.S. Love that there is no CEO listed here so there's no way to measure approval rating hmm.

Pros

- A remote company with a seemingly good mission - There are some really good people there

Cons

In all of the companies I've been at, there has been some degree of toxicity. I thought Calm would be different but it was off the charts toxic for me. My time at Calm consisted of micromanagement, passive-aggressiveness, toxic positivity, and a complete lack of professionalism. I decided it wasn't worth my time to stay. I experienced nights of sleeplessness that then led to morning anxiety for weeks. No amount of meditation made me feel any better ironically. Having a terrible manager that was manipulative and had no idea how to actually manage prompted me to finally leave. I shared my experiences before I left with executive leadership and HR.

Pros

- Great pay. Not just good, but great. - Remote - People say the right things, not sure if they truly mean it, but they at least say it - People not in management or vying for it are really nice

Cons

- Nightmarish post-merger issues - HR is non-existent - Managers will lie straight to your face just to save face - People vying for promotions or stability will definitely through others under the bus - Workload has grown exponentially, but the home brewed app management system is a bandaged mess that makes no sense - They say they are transparent but they aren’t - A specific manager tries to talk about important topics but sounds like a college kid trying to meet a word minimum on an essay due in thirty minutes - Calm Springs was a disaster and a half as we listened to rich people tell us how to be better for seven hours a day - Creative teams are hit or miss. Some are good and some couldn’t walk three steps without needing affirmation in Slack - Teams are everywhere and each member has so many unrelated responsibilities that it makes inter-team communication next to impossible because you do not know who to speak to - All uploading for the app has been left to one contractor that they are cutting and that has slowed down any momentum
