DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!

Pros

1. You're able to work from home. 2. You might experience a small feeling of self-achievement after a shift, if you're lucky enough to get a decent group of students. 3. Your schedule gets cleared for most holidays 4. You can see your daily earnings after logging onto the tutoring site. 5. If your shift is scheduled, they pay you to wait for a student. 6. The "Wrap Up" feature, which allows you to stop accepting students 15 minutes prior to the end of your shift.

Cons

1. Most students are ESL students who struggle severely with the English language. 2. Most students want YOU to do the work for THEM, including but not limited to performing research, reading passages and relating the meaning, giving them the answers (sometimes I get, "can you just tell me the answer?"), writing theses statements, etc. 3. The pay is approximately $7-$8 less per hour compared to competing tutor companies. 4. The pay to wait for a student is even less. 5. You can't call them to ask a question. Don't even try. 6. If you e-mail them to ask a question, they will NEVER give you a clear answer. 7. They tell you not to give students links to information, give students answers, etc., but if you don't, the student will complain about you, and Brainfuse will send you a warning. 8. Sometimes you have up to 3 students at a time. Last year, I had up to 4 students. I guess they're making progress? 9. The facilitators are rude, and their replies usually give you the feeling that you're annoying them in some way. 10. I had a connection issue with the QuickConnect platform two nights in a row. It was not my network connection. I followed the steps they sent me after I had sent a message to tech support. I had many other programs running on my PC, in addition to my phone and BlueRay being connected to my network. Everything was working fine, EXCEPT QuickConnect. I got an e-mail the next day saying ALL of my shifts were canceled because my students complained about connection issues. 11. Work during the summer months doesn't exist, but that is to be expected. 12. You get paid even less to make suggestions on papers in the Writing Lab. Someone on here stated that the approximate wage is about $3.00/paper for about an hours worth of work. That seems accurate. Their expectations are near, if not, ridiculous, especially for the 25 minute time frame they give you and the ridiculous wage they offer you. It's not worth it. The Writing Lab is so backed up (300-600 papers at times) because no one is willing to do the work. 13. Students WILL swear at you. 14. Students are EXTREMELY impatient. They expect you to be able to review a paper, similar to papers submitted to the Writing Lab, in under 10 minutes! This is not a feasible time frame, especially for papers that are written by ESL students. 15. Students will "yell" at you and session monitors will do NOTHING about it, but if the SAME student makes a complaint against YOU, you're gone. 16. They will tell you that there is room for advancement. Good luck! Keywords: "tell you"

This job is a SCAM

Pros

If you like working with 7 students at a time and not getting paid for that extra time and effort, then this is the job for you! This job sounds great on paper, but in reality, it is unorganized, hectic, and frustrating. You don't get feedback from upper management but you constantly get complaints from students that upper management relays to you about random NOTHING. Once you get too many complaints, you get fired. You can't even fight these complaints because it is all about the customer. They do not care about the employee AT ALL. Upper management is BEYOND incompetent so if you have a valid discrepancy, it will fly right over their heads. So, you can try to reason with them but it's like talking to a 7 year old who has free reign over his daddy's business. Nobody knows anything, but they'll stick to their just made-up rules as if we are all supposed to know it for fact. The tutor guides that they provide are severely inadequate and lack basic protocol rules that they nag you for in their emails. Even if you follow the protocol in the guide, they will nag you for that.

Cons

Severely incompetent! I cannot stress this enough! Working with more than 3 students at a time. Low pay for all the work that you do. They take advantage.

Pros

One of those companies that appeals to millennials. No dress code, get to work from home as much or as little as you want. Can make decent money during busy times. Offers a unique variety of students and resources to assist them.

Cons

Very difficult to find summer hours, and some holidays when I have more time off to work. I also miss the face-to-face, all communication is done online which can only add to frustrations when working with a particularly difficult student. Pay is mediocre.
