Successful in spite of themselves

Pros

Product is beloved by educators. People are kind.

Cons

An infrastructural and data nightmare. Sales teams don’t have accurate data to manage their business but are held to data metrics for compensation. It makes you feel incompetent and crazy. “Leadership” is either totally out of touch or just cashing their comfy paychecks while the folks holding it all together apologize to customers about crappy operations.

Most incompetent bunch of people I’ve ever met

Pros

Honestly the people at the bottom of this pyramid truly keep it together. The PTO was not bad, I was able to take time off from the incompetence whenever I needed it

Cons

Let’s start with the basics: nepotism, favoritism, lack of organization, waste of time (constantly). I have never met management that is so ready to waste precious time out of the day and then is determined to complain about why stuff has not been completed. I had heard that family owned businesses carry nepotism within them but wow this was a WHOLE other deal. Don’t get me started on the toxic positivity. You cannot disagree or basically be a differing opinion without becoming nuisance to someone. Systems at this company are also a disaster. I truly don’t understand how these people are in charge of a product that helps educate children anywhere.

Is someone benefiting from the failed internal systems?

Pros

Beloved product by students and educators. People with education in their bones and want to solve problems for teachers and help students grow.

Cons

It's not hyperbolic to say that internal systems are a failure here. What's worse is that even after identifying issues over and over again, they do not improve. Leadership creates business rules about team compensation knowing that they do not have the systems to support these decisions. Then when it's time for commission payouts, they are late and wrong. While the team loves the product, they don't work at BrainPOP for kicks. This is the fundamental agreement between employer and employee. When employees voice frustration about this again and again, leadership acts like they are being entitled. This disconnect creates a lack of trust and a feeling that leadership is all talk with no action. It is the primary cause of high turnover on the sales and success teams. Finally, when systems are so unreliable and basic subscription data can never be verified much less reconciled, it begs the question, who benefits from this mess? Someone must because it continues to persist.
