Pros

Eventually you get paid - after several months of cock-ups and errors.

Cons

Awful management structure, rewarding bullying behaviour and aggressive micromanagement. No pay progression, so with woefully bad annual increases below inflation you get paid less each year to do more. Managers have favourites and if you're not one of them expect to get the worst tasks and the harshest reviews. Absolutely no back-up from management in difficult situations as they take the side of the complainant. If I could give this job no stars I would.

Pros

Career progression in terms of upskilling, career experience in terms of diversity and sideways moves to experience other areas of country and out of country, career ladder, and a general interesting day with lots to learn. Challenging situations and colleagues have been great by my experience

Cons

Some may find shift work difficult and may also find a fast paced and continually changing legislation framework a draw back.

Pros

90% of AA-HO grade staff are excellent people who genuinely want to serve the country. Job is interesting and can be varied. Easy access to main location. Good transport links. Good money but you sacrifice more, eg weekends, evenings etc. Get to see some beasts of the sky up close!

Cons

Senior management shocking at making important decisions No real development opportunities only on paper. You join a team and are stuck love it or hate it. Doesn't really care for its shift working officers, prioritises admin staff over shift workers. Force by name only more of an administration rather than law enforcement. Too many grey areas, make it up as you go along procedures. Makes the met police service look competent and caring.
