Management is THE WORST

Pros

There can be a real sense of purpose there. Many of the instructors genuinely have the students' success at heart and work hard with them to achieve their goals. I really felt the impact of my efforts with the customers. It felt like my work was very important to the students' success. I really wish this business would meet its potential. Erik was always really aspirational about what the mission of the business was until he left. I didn't get that at all from the other managers. They made it feel like we were after a buck. The CTO, Mina, is the only reason this business hasn't crashed a burned. Good luck to anyone working here after he gets wise.

Cons

It's been a little while since I worked there, but management was a train-wreck and I've heard it hasn't changed at all. It's basically a bunch of Ivey bros who think they're better than all of their subordinates and have no clue how to lead and motivate a team of people. They all have such big egos that it's impossible for them to make any meaningful or long-lasting changes to their approach. If someone quits, the blame for any failures in that role is pinned on the departing person and there is no reflection on the manager's performance (Despite multiple people leaving the same jobs repeatedly for similar reasons). There are never exit interviews because managers can't handle any criticism. Personal growth is nonexistent in part because managers don't like praising employees. They think it breeds complacency despite how hard the whole team is working (to the point of constant burn out). If you're considering working here, talk to former employees on LinkedIn. I think we can all agree that it won't be worth it. I've heard there are regular mass exoduses, so employee turnover is high.

Not a good place to work

Pros

There is a 20 word minimum here, so I'll say that the space was nice and the idea of working at a place that has a positive outcome for other people's lives was also a bonus.

Cons

You're expected to live the startup hustle, without any of the perks of the startup life. Crazy hours and expectations, people pushed to their extremes. Immature leadership-- both in the way that the CEO managed people, but also in the sense that it felt like a frat house with added secrecy, despite being a small team. Would not recommend working here, go elsewhere for your own sanity.
