Pros
Generally, this employer offers job security and predictability. The rank and file consists of nice people with good intentions.
Cons
Intermediate Units are "middle men" between the PA Department of Education and public schools. They are a concept that has outlived their usefulness in most cases and are a drain on taxpayers. Berks County Intermediate Unit is run from the top down. It follows an out dated, industrial work model. Even as a professional, you are expected to "clock in." Seat time is emphasized, productivity is expected, but their is little return flexibility. Advancement is political. Play nice and be a "yes man" or don't expect to be promoted. The pay is mediocre at best and the culture is fairly toxic because of heavy-handed management.
