      Nice building Decent pension plan

      Cons

      Absolutely toxic management. The commercial director degrades and insults team members. Shouting and passive aggresive behaviour are normalised. Lack of professionalism from the board. Toxic working environment, high turnover.

      Some good people, a stable business but going through the Small to Medium Enterprise transition

      Pros

      On the Leiden Bioscience Park close to the University and other companies. Easy to get to. New building soon. Diverse, resilient business portfolio. 'First mover advantage' in many fields. No serious business unit failures (yet). Some good, dedicated people. Good parties / social events.

      Cons

      Low pay. Poor IT decisions for some years only now being fixed. At least one office of middle managers that could be removed. Fragmented culture in the company. Growth overtaking the ability of management to cope. Emphasis on employing young, inexperienced people and not letting them progress. Maybe too diverse a business portfolio: lots of radically small units with different needs. 'Churn' of professional contractors / outsourced suppliers; c.f. lack of 'New Blood' in the management positions.

      - Knowlegdeable colleagues in my team

      Cons

      - Using old bioinformatics tools - Lab staff is unprofessional and lacks training, prone to errors - Lack of leadership at all levels - High turnaround of people - Focus only in sales, not development - One middle manager needs to be fired, they block all innovation initiatives - Lack of training - Pressure to be competitive with larger genomics companies, which have better trained staff in bioinformatics - Lack of support to implement novel products - No opportunities for growth - Subtle racism - 5 people quit since I started 4 months ago
