Pros

will be good if you like music

Cons

From my perspective, management in engineering does not want to manage. They just want to be engineers. While this is fine in a small company, at the size of bandlab with many employees, the managers are actively hindering progress by not doing their job. If you need managers instead of ICs, please hire some actual managers or at least people who dont mind being a manager. Engineering excellence is not prioritized. Engineering excellence requires the whole engineering team to work together to build better, more resilient products. When requests were made to another team to make a feature easier to develop or to fix a bug that would make the product obviously better, the answer was almost always no and the answer was always to do 2-3x more work to work around stupid, unnecessary restrictions. HR does not help employees. While I worked at other companies and saw ineffective HR, this is the first time where I saw active disdain of employees by HR. Simple questions have to be checked up by the C suite and managers before they can be answered. Any request you make, they make you feel like you are asking for too much.

Pros

It is a good place for people who enjoy working independently, a lot can be learnt from working on the products here. The people here are accepting, diverse and open minded.

Cons

Lack of guidance for new employees Based on the town halls, the company only cares about name and branding Lack of engineering culture despite being a technology company No clear structure on how employees can progress in their careers No platform for employee feedback. Only 1 survey, which was then used as a justification to create the worst possible performance review system Pay for employees is generally below average of the market rate, so it is not ideal for people looking for substantial compensation Employee benefits are average at best

Pros

When I joined, the company was genuinely a good place to work, and I was associated with it for more than three years. The culture during the earlier years was supportive and collaborative. The company offers two working models, work from office, or permanent remote. However, permanent remote roles are treated as contractual positions. Offices are present in Singapore and the Philippines, and earlier there was good team alignment despite being distributed.

Cons

In recent times, the culture has taken a sharp turn and the company now feels like a hire-and-fire organization. I was removed during a performance evaluation cycle with the reasoning that leadership wanted to “set an example” by letting go of a few people. This was hard to accept, as my performance had been rated well until last year, and expectations seemed to change suddenly this year. At the same time, the company continues hiring, which creates confusion around accountability and fairness. Management empathy has reduced significantly. Many managers and their leaders work remotely and appear disconnected from how teams actually function and coordinate. Decision-making is highly centralized, with the head of department wanting to dominate how things are done and believing his approach is always right. Managers tend to follow instructions without challenging them, and since most have been with the organization for many years, teams have very little say in how things work. The team I was part of was extremely siloed, with almost no interaction with other teams, driven primarily by one person who led the team.
