Pros

I have been employed from the beginning with Assisting Hands Home Care in Philadelphia. I am writing this review because of a damaging review that someone wrote and feel that I should write a rebuttal . The owners (former businessman and teacher) took a chance starting their own company. Both of them researched the home care industry and believed they could create a better company than what was currently out there. I respect these two people for their work and personal ethics. One of the owners took a CNA course to better understand what the CNA knowledge base was. The owners have been more than fair with me and the others who have been employed here. They are flexible and employees in the office work on the honor system of reporting their time. Employees are expected to be honest.

Cons

Occasionally, an employee may be asked to work extra hours to see a client, potential client or aide in the home. The owners will ask but employees are never required. The owners are in the field more than the employees. I always try to accomodate because I would like to see Assisting Hands succeed as a Home Care Agency. When you see people work so hard to make a better Home Care Agency, you want them to succeed.

Pros

Working alone, nice and friendly clients

Cons

Be careful working at the Happy Valley location. Management frequently forgets to pay your correct wages. Check your paystubs! 🙃 There were multiple instances I had to fight to get paid what I earned, whether it be worked hours or sick pay. Management has no clear understanding of what it is to be professional and follow labor laws. They will barrage you with calls and emails, on blocked off hours of your schedule, to see if you can work. They do not honor the fact that you’ve made previous commitments & pretend to not be upset about it. If you call out sick, prepare to be asked if you can work at a later time then instead. The nurse is toxic and if you don’t do what she wants, then you’ll be treated like dirt. She does not like to be told no. Once she realizes she can’t work you into the ground, she doesn’t give you the light of day. Yes, there is a caregiving shortage. That’s not my problem. You cannot make an employment crisis, my issue. She makes her problems your problems! She will take everything you give her until she can’t take anymore. Ignorance truly is bliss until the state catches up to you. A blind eye can’t be turned forever!

Better As A Second Job

Pros

Flexible schedule/hours, mobile clock-in, open shift alerts via phone and e-mail, room to advance to home office position if desired and a hard worker;

Cons

Low pay, occasionally some clients can be uncooperative and very mean to caregivers, which makes the job really stressful when trying to leave at the end of your shift on time; some clients and/or their families micromanage caregivers despite the caregiver being a certified CNA and knowing how to do their job. My regular client’s family would talk insultingly about myself and other caregivers when we left the room, thinking we couldn’t hear them, while we did personal care with the client...it made us very uncomfortable and it wasn’t worth putting up with anymore. Also, some clients are purposely defiant and disrespectful to the caregivers time and job.
