I have been working at Airbnb full-time for less than a year

    Pros

So great to be in a company where I don't have to constantly sell the need for design, content, and research. Design-led is accepted and embraced way of working at Airbnb. Designers are more like product managers at other companies, making business cases, and leading the full vision for new products and features. The Design team is super, super talented too. The best I've ever work with.

    Cons

The only real bummer is the product team is terrible. I still have no idea what product managers do here. They aren't decision makers, they don't drive the business case, and they don't seem to have any responsibility for team culture. If Airbnb could solve this, they'd be unstoppable.

    Advice to Management

Hire a CPO who can build a strong PM culture. Decide who the deciders are!

I have been working at Airbnb full-time for less than a year

        Pros

Free Meals in exchange for poor management surrounded by a discrimination based environment. Pyramid Scheme, Airbnb is raising property costs at the expense of engineers careers. Discrimination Environment, Pyramid Scheme!

        Cons

Poor Management, They are using people to perform short term operational tasks and laying off employees for new staff with seperate skill set to slowly build the organization. Pyramid Scheme, Organization is poor managed and poor funded. High level of discrimination at the expense of peoples careers. Do not work here, Pyramid Scheme!

        Advice to Management

        Pyramid Scheme!

I worked at Airbnb full-time for less than a year

        Pros

Free food, travel vouchers on airbnb (500 usd every 3 months), some nice people

        Cons

Lack of authenticity, global fakeness from the management downwards, my manager told me that i looked like i got a chemical peel because i have a skin condition. They talk about mobility and promotions but its almost impossible to do so. I was told my manager would not support my application to another role since other more tenured agents would be applying and it wouldnt be fair to them if I got it having only been in...

I have been working at Airbnb full-time for more than a year

        Pros

Most people are extremely nice and driven at Airbnb. You can really find whatever you are looking for in a team. The tech stack is a priority for the company, which makes the company a great place to work as an engineer. We have tech talks at the office, open source projects, stipends to attend conferences, etc. We encourage novel/optimal technical solutions even when the project may take more time, and we (at...

        Cons

Office politics can be frustrating Designers have too much power and many don't know how to build UX or be on top of projects The quality of engineers is highly variable

        Advice to Management

        1. Let go of more engineers who aren't meeting expectations - they are difficult to work with and continuing to play nice is a lose-lose situation for both parties involved. It hurts our brand, wastes money, and lowers the quality of our product. I think we also need to revisit our interview process to make it more fair and filter out more low quality engineers. 2. Being kind ("Be a host", etc.) does not need to translate...
