Pros
Acute Engineering was a great firm to start out with. They have a work flow that is very well optimized for new employees working on production homes. The work culture was very good. People there tend to be very friendly. There are alot of people to learn from. Great for an internship.
Cons
While it was a great place to start out, the heavy emphasis on efficiency made it difficult to keep growing as an engineer once you gained enough experience to be efficient with their spreadsheet tools. It felt like they were more focused on turning me into a efficient worker in a spreadsheet than an actual engineer. Because their system is so optimized, many of the experienced employees there lack a basic understanding of what their spreadsheet tools are doing behind the scenes, these are things that are essential for any engineer to know. While I was there I recall asking several more experienced full time engineers questions about some of the "back calcs"...and thinking back to the answers I received many of them were incorrect. Like I said before, Acute is great for an initial exposure to engineering, however there comes a point where it becomes difficult to keep growing due to some of the "shortcuts" and optimizations taking place in the background.
