Pros

Accel has a very nice new office and most of the people that work there are really great people.

Cons

Unfortunately, the positives get lost in the negatives of working at Accel. My biggest gripe is that the benefits are way below the average. HR responds that PTO is competitive, but in my experience, it's not even close (unless you’re comparing companies that literally offer zero benefits). You accrue about 3 hours of PTO per pay period. It's all lumped into one, so no sick time on top of that. The fall and winter months are fun when people are coming in with the flu, because they don’t have the time to take off and aren’t allowed to work from home. Which brings me to my next gripe - there is very little flexibility within certain departments as far as WFH or flex time. Certain employees and departments receive special treatment. There is no maternity leave offered, and accommodations for mothers is seriously lacking. Health insurance is expensive. We’re constantly told that leaders want to make Accel one of the top employers in Illinois, but that will NEVER happen until employee concerns are taken seriously (or even addressed for that matter). Any voiced concerns about benefits or the work environment fall on deaf ears and there is rarely any sufficient follow-up. Compensation is way below average for certain positions. There is zero transparency with customers and it makes any kind of customer-facing position very difficult.

Pros

Company car with fuel card you keep at home and you punch in/out at home so you're paid for all drive time.

Cons

Everything else? Raises aren't based on performance reviews, so if you are rated higher than your fellow employees you can still get less of a raise than someone who received a lower performance score. I know because this happened to me. Promotions aren't given to entry-level employees. Your only chance of promotion is getting hired in at a higher employment level, or going to work for a smaller TO, working your way up that ladder, and hope that Accel decides to buy that company because they absorb all employees. When they buy another company they create fancy titles for all the execs but are unable to clarify what those fancy titles actually do? So there are several people running around HQ with either identical duties or they're even unclear what they're supposed to be doing. So that's why promotions don't happen, because any position above a grunt is oversaturated. They cover this fact up by referring to a position change as a "promotion." Promotions aren't entry-level to entry-level positions, but they call them that to manipulate people's perceptions. The work itself isn't hard. You go to your service call and do your job. The most draining part is all the driving, which there is A LOT of driving. If you're familiar with route gaming then you already know, but if you aren't, be prepared to drive a half-tank to a full tank each shift, so if you can't handle that level of driving 5-6 days a week, don't apply. On the record, you work your scheduled hours only. In reality, you are expected to be 100% reachable and available on and off the clock. If you aren't available when you're off the clock they won't discipline you but they will ruin your reputation and retaliate in other ways, I've seen it done.

Pros

Very interesting field of work.

Cons

Where do I start...oh! Leadership! Very hands off and clueless. Executives are all children of partner operators which unfortunately are smaller companies that Accel has purchased/absorbed over the years. They've been out of the field for so long that they don't know how to relate to the employees below them. With them being children (and some quite mentally act like children), they hire their friends and other family members that are just as useless as they are. The whole company just reeks of nepotism. Preferable treatment to a lot of people that don't pull their weight. Lots of closed doors and secret meetings..which are about nothing. Managers waste so much time having meetings about planning future meetings. They make horrible decisions that crush morale instantly and if you point it out or call them out about it, you're dead to them. This company is not open to change unless it benefits them financially. They say they value input and feedback but it's a trap. If you're honest, you're considered unprofessional. Everyone is listening to everything you say and observing everything you do. Nothing you do is safe and your words will get turned on you instantly. Forget going on one of those "reward trips" they offer. More like, reward traps! All eyes are on you and its impossible to relax and have fun. Compensation is a joke for what's expected of you. The company makes hundreds of thousands a day but pays management peanuts. HR is useless. Don't expect a response unless they get to terminate someone. You'll never see them work faster than that. All the hard workers get buried or silenced, who eventually quit before they speak up. RMs are all superficial women that don't contribute to anything other than to the CEOs agenda. They don't do their jobs, WHATSOEVER. Actually...hardly anyone does. This company will never progress unless they erase 98% of who is in an executive seat and start allowing their employees to feel safe to open up about the truth and how they really feel. Without repercussions. A huge weight is lifted off of me since I left. I've honestly never been happier in my life.
