There is a vacancy for a Regional Leadership Advisor based in and serving the Tamaki Herenga Waka | South and Southwest region
This is a 1 – 2-year secondment position and will commence on the 28th January 2027.
Leadership Advisor roles are exciting and rewarding opportunities for experienced school principals (current or recent) to support and coach other principals to address the challenges they are facing as school leaders and the implementation of education priorities. Leadership advisor support is provided face to face and remotely, one to one, in clusters or via larger groups/ seminars/presentations/wananga.
The regional Leadership Advisor roles need Principals with successful and rich experience in the primary and/or secondary sectors with the ability to work across a wide range of schools.
Leadership Advisors report to a Director of Education, are in the Te Mahau leadership team and work alongside an integrated team to support schools and school leaders. You will also be supported nationally by a chief advisor and by the network of leadership advisors across New Zealand.
You will be based regionally and work collaboratively with principals/tumuaki individually or within Kāhui Ako and other existing cluster networks, providing localised support for school leaders. Your role would include facilitating collaboration across principals/tumuaki, enabling them to share their expertise across the schooling network, regionally and nationally and focus on transformational change.
You will use your knowledge, expertise and experience to provide support and advice, addressing issues where and when they arise as a highly trusted educational professional. Your focus will be on improving leadership capability in schools and kura.
You will work closely with regional colleagues and play a key role in facilitating the sharing of good practice across the system, supporting collaborative networks such as clusters of schools and Kāhui Ako, and supporting innovative approaches to curriculum design and teaching and learning.

We are looking for deep first-hand knowledge of the principals’ role and their responsibilities and the ability to work well across the sector.
We are looking for Principals with experience in both the primary and secondary sectors and the ability to work across both.
You will also:
Have mana and status in the sector, someone who relates well to others and leads with integrity.
Have proven successful capability in school management and strategic and instructional leadership
Have the ability to coach and support leaders across the sector (primary, intermediate, and secondary.
Have the ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
