At Icon, we believe successful projects start long before the first sod is turned. We're looking for an experienced Preconstruction Manager to join our New Zealand business and play a key role in securing and setting up some of the country's most exciting construction projects.
This is an opportunity to lead projects through the critical preconstruction phase, working closely with clients, consultants and internal teams to develop winning strategies, manage Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) processes and ensure projects are set up for successful delivery.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the New Business Manager, you'll lead the preconstruction function across a range of projects, taking ownership of ECI phases, tender strategy and client engagement.
You'll collaborate with estimating, design and operations teams to ensure every opportunity is commercially sound, strategically positioned and ready for seamless delivery once awarded.
This is a highly visible role with genuine influence over the future growth of the New Zealand business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and preconstruction phases from commencement through to project handover
- Develop winning tender and bid strategies alongside estimating and operational teams
- Manage Expressions of Interest (EOIs), tenders and client presentations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with developers, consultants, clients and subcontractors
- Identify project risks and develop commercial and delivery strategies to mitigate them
- Coordinate tender methodologies, construction programs and procurement strategies
- Lead tender reviews, subcontractor engagement and post tender negotiations
- Support business development by identifying new opportunities and maintaining key client relationships
- Ensure successful handover of awarded projects to delivery teams with clear commercial and operational outcomes
- Drive continuous improvement across preconstruction processes, templates and submissions
About You
- Significant experience in preconstruction, bid management or project delivery within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor. Prior experience as a consulting engineer would also be beneficial.
- Strong understanding of ECI, negotiated work and competitive tendering processes
- Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with clients, consultants and key stakeholders
- Commercially astute with excellent negotiation and risk management skills
- Strong leadership, communication and presentation skills
- Ability to influence outcomes and work collaboratively across multiple business functions
- Passion for delivering high quality outcomes and continually improving the way projects are won and delivered
