We're looking for a Parks Training Programme Lead to lead learning and development initiatives across our Parks Unit, support early-career pathways and create opportunities for people to succeed.

This role combines programme leadership, coaching, and relationship management with practical coordination and administration. You’ll work closely with frontline staff, leaders, training providers, and industry partners to build skills and development opportunities.

The Parks Unit protects and cares for more than 1,200 parks and gardens across Christchurch and Banks Peninsula. With over 300 staff working in a wide variety of roles, developing our kaimahi is critical to our success.

About the role | Ko te mahi nei

As our Parks Training Programme Lead, you’ll lead training and development initiatives across the unit while supporting cadets, interns, and others at the start of their careers. You’ll bring a strong big-picture mindset, build effective relationships, and confidently turn ideas into action.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the coordination and delivery of Parks-specific training and professional development programmes.
• Working with leaders across the Parks Unit to identify learning needs and support workforce capability development.
• Leading the MSD Parks Cadet Programme and supporting participants to build skills, confidence and career pathways.
• Coordinating internships, placements, work experience opportunities and other early-career programmes.
• Building and maintaining effective relationships with training providers, tertiary institutions, industry organisations and workforce development partners.
• Providing guidance and support around apprenticeships, qualifications and training pathways.
• Supporting Health, Safety and Wellbeing through training coordination and programme administration.
• Managing training programme operations, including scheduling, bookings, purchase orders, provider liaison, and record keeping.

About you | Ko Koe Tēnei

You'll be passionate about helping people develop and succeed, particularly those at the beginning of their careers. You’re comfortable mentoring and managing the administration needed to keep programmes running smoothly.

You'll bring:

• Significant experience designing, coordinating, or delivering adult learning and development programmes
• Leadership experience with the ability to take ownership, influence others, and drive outcomes
• Experience supporting apprenticeships, traineeships, or workforce development pathways
• Strong coaching, mentoring, and pastoral care capability
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with confidence working across all levels of an organisation
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex environment
• Strong organisation skills and high attention to detail
• Collaborative approach with a genuine passion for developing others
• A tertiary qualification in adult education, learning and development, human resources, or a related field is desirable.

• Hours of work - Monday to Friday. We are open to offering flexibility between 32–40 hours per week.
• Position - Permanent
• Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street
• Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $88,003 to $97,781 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role.
