      Site Reliability Engineer Interview

      7 Jun 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Vrbo (Austin, TX) in May 2019

      Interview

Went through two phone screens. First was a recruiter who ended the call with the salary question. I tried to politely decline it and let him know that if we liked each other I'm sure we could figure something out. He pressed me to give him a number so I gave him the very top end of my range, and he said that was a little higher than this position offered, but was still in the neighborhood and he'd double check some things and schedule the next interview if all looked well. Second phone screen was set up as a technical phone screen. Everything seemed to go pretty well. I had experience with nearly everything the interviewer asked about and related it to recent projects I had worked on. I took some time to ask the interviewer about the position and things started to sound a bit grim. Single application hosted in a single geo location that's been struggling to adapt to newer technologies. Hosted on windows and Expedia is trying to bring everything into a linux/unix flavor. It honestly sounded like this position would be stepping into a dying team and you'd be working to rid yourself of a job. In any case, the recruiter never called me back, never responded to my follow-up email either.
