I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Visa Inc. (Austin, TX) in Oct 2019
Interview
I have applied online for Senior DevOps Engineer - Kubernetes position in the company website and was contacted for availability for an interview with a member from recruiting team. In the interview he gave a brief overview on what team works and gave a coding hackerrank challenge. I explained him the what way I would like to go about the solution and finished it , but there were errors during compilation which I corrected.
In the end, interviewer said I used hashes and arrays to solve , but he thinks we can achieve it only with hashes. And next day I got the automated email, that they are not going forward with my application.
There can be multiple ways to solve a problem. I feel the interviewer has to mainly focus on the approach, syntax, ability to complete the solution, but in my case they didn't bother about anything. He just saw that I took a different approach than whatever was in his mind.
First of all, I didn't apply for a Developer/QA Automation role to test coding skills. Even though, I thought may be they want to see my approach and other stuff. But I felt like it's like an interview for developer role.
I am certified and have experience in Kubernetes,AWS and DevOps. Felt bad because they rejected me without asking a single question related to the job description I applied for or the experience I have. They should change their process of evaluating a candidate as per the role.
