HR emailed me and informed me that I wasn't qualified. The next day I received an email inviting me to schedule an interview which I accept. Later that same week, the HR rep emails again wanting to know if I'm interested in a position several levels below the one I applied for. I respond I am scheduled for an interview the next day and please confirm the position the interview is for. The HR rep responds that the interview is for the lower position and if I'm not interested, I need to cancel, then proceeds to ask what my experience is with regards to the lower position, implying I'm not qualified for that position either. Complete bait and switch. What type of company and HR department schedules interviews for candidates for positions which they didn't apply to and are overqualified without informing them?

Since you are gainfully employed, and qualified for the position you applied for, would you consider taking a 50k pay cut and interview for a position you didn't apply for without us telling you that's what we scheduled?
