I applied online. I interviewed at VIPKid in Feb 2017
Interview
It was an unusually poor and unpleasant experience. Spent hours preparing by going over the resources that were provided by the company for the interview, watching numerous YouTube videos, and getting materials ready. The teaching demo tips and guidelines specifically state the mock student will have minimal English knowledge but will understand some commands like how to draw a line, so I followed the teacher directions in the lesson that literally state the student is to draw a line to the next dot on this activity or circle something, only to have the mock teacher not do this (causing considerable delay) and then penalize me for it. The sample video recommended for watching in the demo prep resources shows the teacher drawing lines, so it was very contradictory as opposed to what was in the actual teaching demo instructions. Very confusing; gives the impression that you should ignore any statements in the demo that student knows something and assume they no absolutely nothing and act accordingly, lest you get canned for looking awkward and ineffective. Also, that sample video seemed so artificial. I'm not sure how that can appear to be much of a marketable product to customers.
Right away I was turned down and observed the application portal was shut down so as to prevent reapplying, even though I was told I could do so.

South Africans, don't waste your time or energy. They are just doing data collection on you, you won't actually get hired. The company is unprofessional and nationalistic.
There are many better employing companies that treat applicants and employees respectfully.
I applied online and had one mock interview. I prepared for the interview by reading the slides and watching YouTube videos. I went around the house grabbing props and a white board.
I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at VIPKid (Dallas, TX) in Jun 2018
Interview
Very thorough. Helpful links and resources available through application and searching youtube videos.
