Prelims Exam:
Exam structure: Duration was for one hour. Ninteteen questions mostly consisting of fill in the blanks, few multiple choice questions. MCQ’s have negative marking, 50% of the marks alloted to the question will be deducted for a wrong answer. Didn't come across any MCQ with multiple correct choices. No negative marking for fill in the blanks. One question could have upto two fill in the blanks. Each question carried one to two marks weight.
Topics Covered: 1. Aptitude -Four questions were asked with topics ranging from simple interest, speed time (trains), profit loss and combinations.
2. Electronics: One question each on p-n junction and amplifiers. No questions from 8086 microprocessors. Around eleven questions from digital logic and principles from topics like gates, mux, adders, counters, number systems, codes and sequence recognizer .
Difficulty level: Moderately difficult, since multiple concepts needed to be applied to solve a question it was time taking. Made a couple of calculation errors. There was no time to think, you just have to start solving and move to next question.
Mains Exam:
Exam structure: Two hour paper that consists of one, two and three mark questions. Need to know shortcuts to solve the questions. Not that difficult but the questions can be very lengthy, you will not in your comfort zone. You need to be very alert and sharp. Some of the questions asked from digital circuits are not the regular type of questions you can find in textbooks. Aptitude they mostly asked CAT level questions, one question they asked from geometry. From C programming they mostly asked very tricky question i.e, find output of the given code snippet. Need to have thorough knowledge of theory to be able to solve these questions. One question they asked to write a C program, it was easy.
Preparation Tips: Be thorough with your concepts. Go through any standard textbook and questions at the back also. Dont neglect any topic, you should read every single line from your textbook. Go to the exam in a relaxed manner. For Digital electronics I went through Digital Principles and Design by Donald D Givone, for aptitude I went through CAT Quantitative Aptitude by Trishna, for C programming I did not have much time to study theory so I practiced writing programs from a question bank from programmingwithbasics website. I scored 40/100.
Finally did not attend the interview as I had another job offer.
All the best!!!
