      Human Resources Manager Interview

      5 Sept 2011
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Twilio (San Francisco, CA) in Aug 2011

      Interview

I was interviewed by the head of recruiting. She was ten minutes late for the call and seemed somewhat distracted during the interview. She spent the first two minutes of our six minute interview giving me a "canned" overview about Twilio. She asked me for a brief overview of my current position, even though I have more than fifteen years experience in HR. Having spent my entire career with start-up companies, I highlighted my relevant experience given where Twilio is in a company's evolution. She then asked me for my current salary. She told me that she would have to talk wtih the CEO and hung up. I was surprised and disappointed that our call only lasted six minutes, especially since I spent three hours researching the company and was very interested in the position. I received a one sentence email the next day telling me I wasn't qualified for the position. The recruiter is most candidate’s first impression of the company. As an individual who has managed HR organizations, I always hire recruiters that are professional and engaging, and can both articulate and reflect the company's culture to candidates.
