      Backend Engineer Interview

      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Threadloom (Palo Alto, CA)

      Interview

Paul, the CEO, reached out to me via email. We had a chat about the company and the role a few days later, a full day onsite a week later, and an offer quickly followed. The whole process was really fast and a testament to their small and agile size that they are able to mobilize so quickly. The whole team seemed very talented, ethical, experienced, and with a great attitude. They are one of the friendliest teams I've interviewed with. The business is pretty interesting and they've definitely found a good way to approach the problem space. The only reason I didn't take the offer was due to another offer that that more closely fit my academic background.

      Question 1

I won't share specifics but most of the interviews were a decent mix of coding and systems design.

      Interview

Company looks like small, innovative place where really talented engineers come together and create their own small startup. Firstly, Engineering Manager called, it was 30 minutes talk, she was so friendly, awesome! The second talk with CTO, he was great too, so nice, helpful, awesome personality. I passed first round of tech interview which was 1 hour long. The second one with the engineer in company, he asked question about hastahble, I solved, he said, great! We have 5 minutes more, we talked about company, it was like, More likely, I am going next round! I was so happy, really want to work in company, but schocked with an rejection email. No reason, I still did not get it, why they did that. Maybe, because of I am Junior Developer, but do know it at the beginning. CTO, said we are not sharing feedback. Then, why waste my time? Even cannot give a feedback. I spend my time to prepare, do my best very professionaly but I got rejection with no feedback, no reason. It was so unprofessional to even not share the reason, how I supposed to improve myself then, just waste my time. It is okay, 90 percent of Startups fails, I am not very sad but I wish I could not have applied to them, seriously they unprofessionaly waste my time. ( Their reactions, End of all rounds, great, your algorithm is correct! Awesome! We have still time! ) I dont think that it is ethic to reveal questions but briefly, they are about; Matrix Multiplication and Hashtables -
