I had an initial phone interview with a member of the recruitment team. When asked about the kind of work I’m interested in, I mentioned brand marketing within community-focused spaces. Their response was "this isn't really a brand role, it's more marketing campaigns". It felt overly literal and somewhat narrow in interpreting my answer.
When it came time for me to ask questions about the role, I was told they couldn’t answer anything "too marketing-related," which I found odd given it’s a marketing position. It left the impression that the person conducting the interview may not have had the right context or depth to assess candidates for this role effectively.
What's interesting is that the business has since reposted the role on multiple platforms. It wouldn’t surprise me if strong candidates were overlooked simply because they didn’t give a textbook response. It’s a missed opportunity, one that could be avoided with a more informed or aligned recruitment approach.
I applied online. I interviewed at The Commons (Australia) (Melbourne) in Mar 2023
Interview
They have one phone screening interview and then they have multiple interview rounds but I only got through one. Rated the interview as difficult due to the multiple interview rounds
