I applied through other source. I interviewed at The Aspen Center
Interview
First interview was on Zoom with practice owner/manager. Standard questions about experience and theoretical orientation. Some red flags came up such as the owner mentioning recent loss of majority of staff, on-call expectations, and minimal marketing assistance. But I was offered a second interview so I decided to take it. The in-person second interview went really well. I met with the owner and talked through a previous case of mine and clarified a few concerns. I also met with billing to discuss benefits and pay. I left feeling great. Everyone seemed really kind and answered my questions with ease. I received an offer letter from them shortly after which was relatively brief and vague, but I was also told this was not the contract and I would receive that after the offer letter was signed. I got the contract and it was a completely different tone from the interview I had just experienced. It was pages upon pages of “employee will do x for company” with no benefits or protections for me the employee whatsoever. My pay was not even spelled out in the contract. Just percentages of a theoretical average. Benefits were not listed, it did not state that the practice would cover marketing costs, and included a non-compete and non-solicitation clause. I was told to reach out if I had any questions and so I did. Days went by without hearing from them. All of a sudden, I get an email saying the job offer had been rescinded and it would not be in the company’s best interest to hire me. I can only speculate as to why they did this as no reason was given, but all that changed from when I was offered the job to when it was taken back was that I asked questions about my pay and benefits. I’m ultimately thankful they took the offer back because I know I dodged a bullet by not working here (especially seeing recent reviews from former employers). However, it does sadden me that people and practices like this exist in a profession where our goal is to help people.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Interview questions were standard beyond inquiring as to how long I would stay with the practice if I was hired. Explicitly stated I would not be considered if I was planning on getting my licensure hours and going elsewhere.
