Recruiter connected for Frontend Staff Software Engineer in CRM team. First round was scheduled for hands-on coding round using JS, HTML and CSS. I insisted on more backend or full stack role but the recruiter anyways put me for a Frontend Web developer role since my most recent experience was related to this. In the first round I failed. I wasn't allow to use Google or ChatGPT for syntax, and I was bad at hands-on coding without syntax help from Google or ChatGPT.

Question 1
Write a react based code for simple 3 pane layout app, the width of the panel should be draggable and can be dynamically change by the user.

I had only 2 rounds. DSA and LLD. After LLD, there is a HLD round. LLD round was bit unconventional and interviewer wanted specific answer. DSA was okay, lletcode medium level.

Was polite and straight with the expectation and communication
1st Round - Problem Solving and Javascript
Had fun discussing problems and technical details around day to day work with the interviewer.
2nd Round - LLD
Was supposed to be a machine coding round
Interviewer decided otherwise and asked to write JSON API response for Scorecard (I chose Cricket) from memory
Wrote completely extensible types using TypeScript and shared sample JSON with two apis 1) Match Detail 2) Scorecard
I think interviewer was a Backend engineer and was nit picking on completeness of data, rather than extensibility per requirements / UI view.
It's alright, Frontend engineers should work with APIs responses and discussing contracts but making hiring decision solely based on it and ignoring actual skills and experience says alot about company culture.
If you are from a product based company, stay away from Tekion.
