Had a call with recruiting, seemed to go well. The recruiter reached out to give tips on what the hiring manager would cover in the interview, so I prepared accordingly. There were two positions and the recruiter said the hiring manager would discuss and vet my candidacy for both roles. The hiring manager did not follow what the recruiter had prepared me for, at all--and specifically wanted to go in the opposite direction of what the recruiter had suggested. She felt that wanting to be considered for two roles meant a lack of focus and was detrimental to the entire interview process. Thus I ended up being led by recruiting down a path that the hiring manager automatically ruled me out for.
