I travelled all the way to Cornwall for an in-person interview from Kent, which I only agreed to because I believed I had a fair chance at the role. However, after the interview, I was informed that living locally and having a driver’s license were essential requirements — neither of which were listed in the job description or communicated beforehand. The hiring team was fully aware of my location and situation when they invited me.
After receiving a rejection email when I got back (12 hour round trip) , I called to express my concerns and was told it was simply an “oversight” on their part — with no apology! I later followed up to ask for reimbursement for travel costs, given how avoidable the situation was, and was told flatly, “Oh no, we don’t do that.”
It left me feeling that candidate time and effort weren’t respected, and that the process lacked basic consideration and transparency and the company didn’t demonstrate the values they so call uphold.
