Senior Front-End Web Developer and SEO/SEM Specialist Interview

      3 Oct 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at SportsRecruits in Sept 2019

      Interview

This was the most cringe-worthy interview in my adult life. I did not apply for this position, the CTO found my profile on angle.co and contacted me via email. The first interview was over the phone and I felt like I was speaking with an intern and not with a senior software engineer that has an executive-level position in a company. We discussed about tech, business in general and about issues with their website. Boring, corporate bs and basic stuff. After positive feedback, we scheduled another interview. The second interview was a panel/group video call with the CTO, CPO and a developer. More corporate bs. They lag behind in terms of technology and they are NOT open to new ideas. One more time for those in the back: they are NOT open to new ideas! They believe that what they have built so far is the most amazing platform on planet Earth. Spoiler alert! Is not! They're crushed by the competition. I told them that their landing page has a performance score of 26/100, is not optimized and what should be improved. Any reasonable person would have taken this as a constructive criticism, but now that I think about it, they might have felt insulted. Also, basic, simple concepts like BEM naming conventions were totally new to them. I had to explain to them why they should not use CSS class names like "u-BG-collegeLogos--purple" because it is a bad practice and can cause problems in the future or why bundling all your scripts in one single file is good SEO and whatnot. Again, basic simple stuff that you wouldn’t expect in a serious job interview for a senior web developer position. I almost hang up the call. Two days after, I followed up via email and got this response: "We did not think it was the right culture fit"
