I applied online. I interviewed at Sparrow Inc (San Diego, CA) in Mar 2026
Interview
I did a take home assignment, had an over the phone call, then a zoom interview that was more hands-on with some real time work samples.
Everyone was very receptive, informative, eager and interested. This fostered an open environment to share my work well and fully.
I enjoyed that by the time I was in conversation with the team, there was real interest because they already had a work sample from me.
Additionally, I felt that the process was well balanced for the interviewer and the interviewee. There was a consideration for what the candidate might need to know in order to make an informed decision on their interest in Sparrow. Conversely, the interview process was through and covered everything from personal rapport, soft skills, hard skills, critical thinking and experience. It made me confident that the team got to know me well enough to make an informales decision on me as a candidate.

Listen. When I saw the NEGATIVE reviews I should have LISTENED!!! I passed the take home assessment and the recruiter screen. Before I had to do the zoom call assessment, I was told to familiarize myself with SDI, PFL & EDD. Not only did I familiarize myself with those programs, I also went even further to familiarize myself with FMLA, CFRA, etc. I reviewed the company in its entirety, watched the podcasts they linked in my email. Literally everything. So it was time to do the zoom call. I interviewed with Traci whose demeanor was uncomfortable. I heard this company is bias and it definitely came off that way. She was nice but she definitely showed no real interest in making this a collaborative effort as the email stated this zoom call would be. It consisted of 2 parts. Math is such a strong point for me so I was able to breeze through the first part. The second part, I got confused. When I tried to explain my way of thinking, she kept acting like I was telling her to feed me the answer. What’s the purpose of calling it a collaborative assignment if you’re gonna act annoyed and uninterested when I’m asking questions? My frustration started to show because by then I figured this was a waste of time and I knew I wasn’t going to the next round. I already don’t understand why it’s 3-4 rounds with little pay. This company is toxic and they definitely need to go back to the drawing board. Having a 3-4 round interview with assessments etc and you don’t even pay $30+? Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Please take heed before applying with this company!

Interview
Pleasant and encouraging recruiters, but extremely disappointing results due to no feedback at all and a quick rejection after three time-consuming steps that require focused research and keen concentration. Having read through the many negative reviews of the process outcome (which I chose to ignore), it is clearly an extremely deflating experience for most candidates. They are missing out on extremely strong potential team members. It’s tempting to wonder if they are even hiring at all.
