      Application

I applied through university. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at SnapStream Media (Houston, TX) in Oct 2012

      Interview

I met with a software engineer at the UT Austin career fair, and talked about how my particular interests within computer science could be applied at SnapStream. Dropping off my resume was all I had to do to apply. I then had one hour-long phone interview a handful of days later. The phone interview involved programming and tested my basic skills as a computer scientist. I heard back a few weeks later and was invited to an on-site all-day second interview. During the second interview, I talked to several different employees, including one from marketing and two developers as well as the director of engineering and the president. They asked me typical interview questions to get to know me and had me work out technical problems on the whiteboard. I even got to do an exercise on a computer using real SnapStream code, which was refreshing after having done many technical interviews where the code I wrote wasn't being compiled or run. No other company I interviewed with did this. I later received and accepted an offer. The entire process took about three months, but this is because I was working on my doctorate in another city and the holidays happened in the middle of it. I did not feel that SnapStream was slow or unresponsive during the process. I didn't start until about 7 months after I accepted, since I had to finish my degree.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I don't remember specifics, but one thing SnapStream does is ask you questions about specific subfields of software development (e.g. databases, web development, various algorithms) that you may not have had much experience with, but they'll phrase the questions in such a way that a smart and capable computer scientist will be able to work his or her way through them regardless. They are looking for the potential to be a great software developer, not necessarily someone who's already done every kind of computer science.

      Interview

It was simple, shared my resume using career fair, and then they asked me for a telephonic interview within a week. I gave telephonic which went well according to me but I got rejected after telephonic. The process happened quickly and I got reject within 2 weeks. Experience was good, but didn't get accepted :( !

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Gave me a problem to check if another string is a substring of another or not, asked me about projects, asked about binary search and indexing in databases

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at SnapStream Media

      Interview

I gave them a resume at my career fair, they talked to me a bit and wrote notes on my resume when ever I said something interesting. They emailed me a couple weeks later to sign up for an interview over the phone. They asked a couple technical questions and a week later asked for a follow up and gave me three more technical questions that were more difficult. They seem cool, but I after the last interview they said they will inform me sometime the next week their decision, and I haven't heard from then since. Which has me more disappointed in them, c'mon guys just be straight with people. Interview experience was actually pretty good up until they said when they'd contact me and just didn't.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I had 2 over the phone interviews with coding prompts I answer on a public coding doc. First was removing matching characters between two strings. Second was iterating through a tree, but he explained the prompt very indirectly to make it more complicated and refuse to say this is a tree or graph or whatever data structure. Follow up was more intense but I did much more well on. Implementing a stack, resolve a read/write deadlock, breath first search vs. depth first search.

      Interview

First round is a phone interview with a coding question. The coding question will be asked while you're talking over the phone so be prepared for that. Coding is dual editable like google docs.

      Question 1

Nothing very difficult in first round phone interview, just be prepared for general HR type questions.
