Interview
Online application followed by a standardized test of content knowledge. Unclear how effective the test really is, but it will definitely weed out anyone without a science background. Interviewed on the phone a week later and immediately started on a paid test article. Once that was satisfactory, started a probation period at full pay.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Selfhacked (Dana Point, CA) in Nov 2017
Interview
Sent application (cover letter and resume) through email. The next day, I was instructed to book a cognitive test over Skype with a remote assistant. The cognitive test included some reasoning, reading comprehension, and pattern recognition tests that I remember. The following morning, I received an email that the company was interested in further interviewing me and that I should contact the CEO on Skype.
I spoke to the CEO about 2 weeks later, during which he decided to create a position just for me and listed all the tasks he's interested in having me take on because I had many other skills than most science writing applicants did. The position initially would be the lead editor for the company, so I would first be tested by editing as many of their articles as possible for 2 weeks at half the hourly rate. After editing about 7 articles (each involved extensive research and took up to 12 hours), the CEO decided that he liked my work, so we discussed the offer and I took the role full-time.
