I knew I should have just skipped the interview, but I was curious, and you never know. The phone interview was pretty standard. I was invited to meet with the VP of Sales 4 weeks out. I know Christmas and New Year's can disrupt the interview process, but it seemed like there was no effort or urgency to meet with candidates, so I already had several offers come through before meeting with the hiring manager. Easy "no" for me. The conversation was very robotic, and it's always off-putting when the hiring manager doesn't even share their background before starting the interview. The questions seemed more appropriate for a Tech Sales role, which is laughably tone deaf, considering this isn't the appropriate industry. I felt like I was asked the same questions 3x just in different ways and overall the hiring manager made no effort to get to know me beyond my resume. I then asked for feedback and next steps and he couldn't provide a straight answer which tells me he's conflict-avoidant. I can see why the incumbent that I was replacing was only with the company for 8 months. Happy I selected a stronger opportunity elsewhere before doing this.
