A 45 minute interview with a 15 minute pairing exercise using a google notes document. This was awkward but ok. Writing on a Google document seemed silly and I was unable to see if what I was writing worked.
3 hour interview consisting of systems design, pair programming and behavioural. This part was an absolute shambles.
The one hour pair programming written in typescript- a language I don’t know and told them before hand I had no experience in. Had no time to think things through, was told the answers far too quickly.
Systems design expects a junior to know in depth systems information rather than the basics. The interviewer was rude and didn’t like anything I said. I gave detailed answers based upon what I have used and know, but he still wasn’t happy. I’m a software engineer, not a systems architect! Seemed too in depth for a junior software engineer position.
Behavioural was not behavioural, they expect a high level of technical information.
The worst interview for a junior position I have ever had. The level of knowledge they expect from a Junior is ridiculous and is more of a mid-senior.
3 hours of three different people one after the other. I was just a number through the whole process, the recruiter never prepped me or called me, would always be an email.
I was happy to turn down if offered as the interview process was so bad and I was treated like a revolving door, I can’t imagine how awful working there would be.
Be prepared for some horrid, non constructive, lengthy feedback also if they don’t like you. The feedback slated literally everything, knocked my confidence to the point I wondered if software engineering was for me. I have never had such rude, incorrect (the interviewers lied about what had happened) and harsh feedback in my entire working life.
- Could be far more considerate and constructive on the feedback.
- could actually tell the truth about the interview afterwards
- Recruiter could have been more forthcoming and helpful, perhaps actually phoning people instead of emailing would have been a more pleasant experience.
Overall a terrible interview experience
